THE NBF Newton team’s hopes of at least finishing runners-up in the southern section were dashed when they were beaten 144-153 by Hunts at Whittlesey Manor.
They went into the match with a very slim chance of winning the section, but with Norfolk defeating Lincolnshire the result proved immaterial.
Although only beaten by nine shots, they claimed just four points from this final match, courtesy of rink wins for Paul Buckley and Steven Shaw, and so had to be content with third place with two wins out of four.
