Blackstones (back row, left to right) – Martin Stokes, Paul Bailey Paul Buckley, Mark Pye, John Earl, Darren Middleton, Martyn Dolby. (Front) Stephen Harris, Adam Warrington, Wayne Morris, Rita Downs, Tom Fielding.

Parkway (back row, left to right) – Paul Dalliday, Jeff Newson, Stuart Reynolds, Simon Law. (Front) Tristan Morton, Pat Reynolds, Michelle Coleman, Emma Thurston, James Harford, Brian Martin, Trevor Collins, Mike Robertson.
BLACKSTONES won a thrilling Dan Duffy Trophy final at the City of Peterborough club, pipping holders Parkway by just one shot – with the match going right down to the last of the 84 ends.
There was just two shots in the match going into that dramatic concluding end, but the Parkway trio of Stuart and Pat Reynolds and Mike Robertson, who had trailed 11-3, could only manage one against Wayne Morris, Mark Pye and Tom Fielding, who edged home 13-11.
it left the jubilant Stamford outfit 74-73 winners.
The county club championship is also a qualifier for the Durham Centenary Trophy, so Blackstones will be flying the county flag in it next year.
Parkway, however, will be contesting the national final against Northumberland’s New Delaval at Skegness on August 17, so even if they become the first club from the county to lift the title, they will be unable to defend it next year.
The damage for Blackstones was inflicted by the rink of Martin Stokes, Paul Bailey and Adam Warrington, who swept aside Paul Dalliday, Jeff Newson and Simon Law 29-12, restricting the Parkway trio to just six scoring ends, which included a count of four on the last.
Parkway took the honours on the remaining two rinks, where positional changes in the Blackstones ranks had the desired effect of reducing deficits that appeared to be getting out of control.
For Parkway, Brian Martin, Trevor Collins and James Harford were 25-16 winners against Stephen Harris, Darren Middleton and Paul Buckley, but they were 16-2 ahead after nine ends before a second half Blackstone rally.
It was a similar story on the other rink where Emma Thurston, Michelle Coleman and Tristan Morton led 15-5 after ten ends against Rita Downs, Martyn Dolby and John Earl, who matched their opponents over the remaining ends to lose by only nine at 23-14.
The county’s Adams Cup final between City of Peterborough A and Peterborough & District is being hosted by the Parkway club next Thursday.

PARKWAY BOWLERS will represent Northants in the final of the Durham Centenary Trophy at Skegness next month after beating neighbours and local rivals Warboys White Hart at Sawtry by nine shots over 21 ends of two-bowls triples.
The Hunts team featured three internationals skipping three of their four rinks, including Nick Brett, Lewis Baker and Ed Elmore, but Parkway had just enough armoury to hold them off.
Special credit must go to the rink skipped by Pat Reynold’s who held Joe Randall’s rink to 18-19 when their team-mates put the result beyond doubt with an end to play.
Elsewhere Tristan Morton’s rink lost 18-21 to Ed Elmore and Brian Martin,Trevor Collins and James Harford drew with Lewis Baker.
The key to victory was the 28-13 demolition of Brett’s trio by Paul Dalliday, Neil Wright and Simon Law.
Parkway will play Northumberland’s New Delaval club who beat The Stute (Derbyshire) 94-69 in the northern section final.
Commented Wright: “It was a high quality game with all our other rinks keeping it tight to protect our lead A great great team effort against very experienced opposition.
“Now it’s on to Skegness to represent the Orange Army!”
DONALD STEWARD DREAM ENDS
Hopes of reaching the finals of the Donald Steward Trophy for the first time in 25 years were dashed for Northants women at Ketton, beaten by nine shots by bottom of the southern section table North Essex.
Northants needed to win all five rinks with a shots plus of at least 32 to make the national finals at Skegness next month but never looked in complete control and overall suffered in their line and length.
They won on only two rinks with Kath Browning, deputy president Viv Hempsell and Gill King taking the rink honours with a 24-14 win after stretching a narrow lead to 17-11 by the 15th.
Terri Handley, Doris Flowers and Julie Masters also finished on top by 28-23, though they shared 40 shots with five ends to play.
Results (Northants names only):
Donald Steward Trophy (at Ketton): Northants 99 (4 pts) North Essex 108 (14). T Handley ( Deeping Assn), Doris Flowers (Yaxley), Julie Masters (Parkway) won 28-23; Norma Squires (City of Peterborough), Tina Tinklin (Conservative), Sue Moir (Langtoft) lost 15-25; Carol Warters, Shirley Suffling, Chris Ford (all Ketton) lost 17-19; Kath Browning, Viv Hempsell, Gill King (all Yaxley) 24-14; Fiona Richardson ( Co P), Elizabeth Wallace (Ketton), Myra Landsburgh (Co P) lost 15-27.
Presidents Dick Noble and Christine Ford with the Under 25 Open pairs finalists.
BLACKSTONES bowler Stephen Harris proved the most successful player at the Northants Federation championships, winning four of the five titles he contested on his immaculately-prepared home green.
Only at the end of a blistering day of bowling by both men and women did he slip up. Partnering clubmate Jon Earl in the men’s pairs he was beaten by Parkway’s Brian Martin and James Harford 21-11.
Earlier Harris had won the Under 25 singles for the eighth successive year – though run close by Whittlesey Manor youngster Zac Brown in a 21-20 tussle and the Under 25 Open pairs with Jack Corney (Whittlesey Manor) for the second year in a row, against Helen Horoyd and Sophie Morton, representing Stamford Town and Parkway.
The 22-year-old England Under 25 indoor international also joined his sister Louise to capture the mixed pairs and beat Lee Welsford (Whittlesey Manor) in the four-bowl singles, though he had to dig deep after Welsford fought back from a nine shot deficit before conceding 21-19.
Some incredible shots made for an incredibly competitive day, no less than the trailed jack which Stamford Town’s Linda Starbuck produced to snatch the women’s three-bowl triples from Julie Masters’ Parkway rink.
With Helen Holroyd and Ann Holmes, she was staring defeat in the face at 11-15 until she trailed the jack for five shots with the last bowl of the game.
It was a similar story for Gill King of Yaxley partnering Les Sharp in the senior mixed pairs. Shirley Suffling (Ketton) and Paul Buckley (Blackstones) had earlier forced an extra end and held shot until King, with her last bowl, trailed the jack for a winning single and a 16-15 victory.
Elsewhere Vanguard’s Malcolm Mann captured two titles – defeating Cliff Watson in the champion of champion singles and joining clubmate Mike Ramsden to beat home based Buckley and Trevor Christie.
As well as Louise Harris (in mixed pairs and Under 25 singles), there were also two titles for Langtoft bowler Sue Moir – the women’s two-bowl and senior singles- and for Parkway duo Simon Law and Tristan Morton. They retained the two-bowl triples for which they are the reigning national champions with Paul Dalliday and the mixed triples with Tristan’s wife Sophie.
The Ketton Bowls Club will have duel representation at the national finals at Skegness, which start on August 20. Christine Ford – the county president – beat
Tina Tinklin (Conservative) to take the four-bowl singles while Elizabeth Wallace and Carol Warters captured the senior pairs with a 16-15 defeat of Parkway’s Sue Overton and Val Newson.

Only victory on all rinks against North Essex at Ketton next Wednesday (July 17) and
an overall winning margin of at least 32 shots will see Northants through to the final of the Donald Steward Trophy at Skegness in August for the first time in 25 years.
That’s the target they must set themselves after defeating Hunts at St Ives 108-83 and picking up 12 crucial points thanks to just two rinks claiming enough shots to carry the match in Northants’ favour.
With Suffolk dropping five points at struggling North Essex in an overall victory, it leaves Northants with a lifeline to make the final for the first time in a quarter of a century.
And it was the Yaxley and Ketton rinks who secured the triumph for Northants, each winning comprehensively against a stubborn home side who battled to pick up points from the remaining three rinks.
The experienced Doris Flowers was drafted in to bolster Yaxley clubmates Kath Browning and Gill King and it proved a key move with the trio extending a 15-end 24-8 advantage to 38-10 by the completion of 25 ends to take the rink honours.
Meanwhile, the Ketton trio of Carol Warters, Shirley Suffling and Christine Ford built up a 10 shots advantage by the midway mark and kept up the pressure to extend it to 25-12 by the close.
Elsewhere credit must be given to the other Northants rinks who fought to keep their deficits manageable for the team and conceded only 16 shots overall in three defeats.
The Northants Silver Vase team lost to Hunts at Somersham 127-91, conceding 16 of the 18 points available.
Only the rink of Joyce Needham, Linda Toms and Wendy Humphreys emerged with a victory, by 24-20.
Results (Northants names only):
Donald Steward Trophy (at St Ives BC): Hunts 83 (6pts) Northants 108 (12). FOOTNOTE: For the final home match at home to North Essex at Ketton on Wednesday, Donald Steward Trophy captain has made a couple of changes, replacing herself with Myra Landsburgh (City of Peterborough) and switching Norma Squires to lead on Julie Masters’ rink.
Twenty-two year old Stephen Harris will need all his stamina if he is to emerge with the five titles he contests at the Northants Federation Championship on his home green on Sunday.
The Blackstones bowler is likely to play through the finals day with hardly a break between 10 am and 8pm, having reached the final of the 4-bowl singles, two-bowl under 25 singles and pairs, men’s pairs and mixed pairs.
His latest success came in the semi-final of the pairs, where he and clubmate Jonathan Earl beat Ally McNaughton and Dave Burton 17-10 at Wittering. They will face Parkway’s Brian Martin and James Harford in the final.
Another multi-finalist is Blackstones’ Paul Buckley whom, with Shirley Suffling (Ketton) contests the senior mixed pairs and with Suffling and Martin Stokes the mixed triples. Partnered by Blackstones club chairman Trevor Christie he will take on Malcolm Mann and Mike Ramsden, from the Vanguard club in the men’s senior pairs.
Yorkshire-born Stamford Town bowler John Holroyd is among those who have reached two finals. Having beaten Andy Cooper (Yaxley) 21-10 he faces Paul Dalliday (Parkway) in the two-bowl singles.
He will also join Richard Allam and Kevin Vinter in the two-bowl rinks against the reigning national champions – Dalliday, Simon Law and Tristan Morton (Parkway).
Among the most eagerly anticipated match-ups are in the women’s singles disciplines in which Langtoft’s Sue Moir appears in two against Julie Masters (Parkway) in the two-bowl singles and Val Newson (Parkway) in the seniors.
Having lost 16-19 with clubmate Suffling in the pairs semi-final on Monday against Louise Harris & Katie Bailey (Blackstones), Chris Ford (Ketton) plays Tina Tinklin in the 4-bowl singles, while veteran Joan Robinson (Yaxley) takes on Angela Cox (Langtoft) in the two-bowl champion of champion singles.
FOOTNOTE: Trophy holders from the 2018-19 indoor and outdoor season are requested to return their shields and silverware to the county secretary Mel Beck or the county finals at Blackstones BC, Stamford or by Sunday (July 14) for engraving. The trophies will be re-presented at annual NBF & NWBF awards at Orton Hall on September 22 by national presidents Mick Rayson and Carole Swann.

Lincolnshire Federation reached the final of the Adams Trophy on Saturday (July 6) by beating Hunts by 60 shots at Sawtry (18-4) to qualify for Skegness in August. In the final, they will play either Derbyshire or Notts who meet in Derby at the weekend to also secure a place at EBF Championships.
In the Newton Trophy final, holders Suffolk will play the winners of the Cleveland v Humberside northern section decider at Ropner Park later this week.
For Northants’ teams in the two competitions, disappointingly their race was run very early in the campaign with successive defeats but despite last minute changes, both finished the season in some style by beating both Norfolk respectively at Holt and R G Carters in Norwich, compiling 17 identical points from three rink wins and a draw.
Jon Earl, the Adams team captain, had to dig deep for players to make the long trek to the East coast, 10 of whom loyally supported him from his home Blackstones club – and helped to provide three winning rinks in a closely fought tussle in drizzle conditions.
With all but one two-bowl triple to complete their 31 ends, the result rested on the Blackstones combination of Mark Pye, Sam Downes and Adam Warrington. However, they were able to maintain a steady shots accumulation to boost the overall total to 168-157 and eventually take the rink honours 37-20.
Elsewhere the winning margins were closer. Wayne Morris, Dusty Miller and Paul Bailey claimed a five-shot margin and Mike Humphreys, Martyn Dolby and Earl showed a gutsy resolve to edge home by two after trailing by six with seven ends to play.
Martin Welsford’s Whittlesey Manor rink, which included Mick Linnell at last making his elusive sixth appearance and subsequent Adams flash, picked up three shots on the last two ends to earn a creditable draw.
The triples, however, skipped by John Holroyd and Paul Buckley were frustrated in being unable to repel late Norfolk surges to steal valuable points.
With his wife Sue suffering a nasty fall which fractured her hip the day before the match at Carters, Newton captain Cliff Watson stepped down and Peterborough & District clubmate Colin Teat filled in on Roger Strong’s rink with Dave Roberts. It proved a successful combination, the trio winning by four shots to contribute to an overall 161-150 victory.
The rink prizes went to Les Sharp, Richard Allam and Malcolm Squires, who won 30-22, with Andy Dyer, Tony Kemp and stand-in captain Brian Bassam just missing out with a 27-20 win.
Also making his debut was senior pairs finalist Malcolm Mann, alongside Vanguard partner Mike Ramsden, whom, with county president Dick Noble, claimed a point sharing 46 shots.
Results (Northants names only):
Adams Trophy (at Holt BC): Norfolk 157 (5pts) Northants 168 (17). ONLY MAXIMUMS WILL DO FOR NORTHANTS WOMEN
Only a maximum 18 points will do at St Ives against Hunts on Wednesday if Northants’ women are to stand a chance of reaching the final of the prestigious Donald Steward Trophy at Skegness in August.
They are on 35 points, currently 27 behind leaders Norfolk in the southern section with two games in hand but second placed Suffolk still have 52 and must visit lowly North Essex where they are expected to win. Two maximum victories, however – they play North Essex at Ketton on July 17 – would take Northants just out of reach of their rivals.
Captain Joan Robinson has made a couple of subtle changes with Elizabeth Wallace switched to join Fiona Richardson and Gill Day and Norma Squires drafted in to the rink of Terri Handley and Julie Masters. A player has yet to be nominated to join Yaxley’s Kath Browning and Gill King.
The Silver Vase team will be joined by Val Du’Kett and Margaret Andrews in a re-shuffled side.
Donald Steward: (v Hunts at St Ives) : C Warters, S Suffling, C Ford; T Handley, N Squires, J Masters; F Richardson, E Wallace, G Day; K Browning, AN Other, G King; T Tinklin,L Hext, S Moir.

Northants’ women bowlers suffered a setback to their hopes of reaching the Donald Steward Trophy finals at Skegness for the first time in 25 years.
They were beaten 131-91 by Suffolk, claiming only two of the 18 points on offer.
It leaves Northants needing to grab maximum points from their last two matches – away to Hunts and home to North Essex – and for Suffolk to slip up at bottom of the table North Essex next week, an unlikely scenario.
Norfolk currently lead the table with 62 points, having completed their five fixtures. Suffolk have 52 with Northants on 35 after completing three fixtures.
Only the rink of Tina Tinklin, Liz Hext (both Conservative Club) and Sue Moir (Langtoft) emerged with points from the match at Borough of Eye in a 26-15 win.
The Ketton trio of Carol Warters, Shirley Suffling and Christine Ford had a chance for two more but their opposition stole it 21-20.
It was a similar tale for the Silver Jubilee Vase at St Botolph’s BC who also conceded 16 points in a 23-shot defeat, where on Carol Grief (Crowland), Cheryl McCarthy and Hazel Bass (both Yaxley) were the only successes 30-20.
Results (Northants names only):
Donald Steawrd Trophy (at Borough of Eye) Suffolk 131 (16 pts) Northants 91 (2). C. Warters, S. Suffling, C. Ford lost 20 – 21; F. Richardson, N. Squires, M Landsburgh lost 19 – 26; K. Browning, M. Osbourne, G. King lost 11 – 38; T Tinklin, E. Hext, S. Moir won won 26 – 15; T. Handley, E. Wallace, J. Masters lost 15 – 31.

After a gruelling campaign so far – and three successive defeats – Northants’ Adams Trophy team at last chalked up a win, taking all but two of the 22 points at stake at North Essex.
They are out of running to win the southern section of the title they claimed in 2015 for the first time their history but Jonathan Earl’s team will be buoyed by the victory as they take on Norfolk at Holt on Saturday in the final game of the season.
In an idyllic setting, the beautifully prepared Radwinter green, proved the perfect surface for fast, touch bowling which suited the Northants players many of whom take to the indoor carpets during the winter months.
Indeed, Northants were rarely stretched, establishing an early 32-19 lead before extending it to 98-54 at halfway in the 31-end encounter. They led 125-72 after 20 ends before finally establishing a 187-124 victory margin.
For the third successive week Brian Martin and Stephen Harris took the rink honours, this time joined by Tom Fielding in a 41-15 rout.
Les Sharp, promoted from the Newton side, which didn’t have a game this week, finally achieved his Adams flash for completing six matches, though it has taken one of the county’s most loyal servants, nearly a decade! He helped Paul Bailey and Adam Warrington to a 28-16 win.
Mick Linnell, also guesting from the Newton, joined Mick Humphreys and Earl in a comfortable win while there were other victories for rinks skipped by Paul Buckley and Martin Welsford.
For Wittering’s Ally McNaughton the afternoon was bittersweet. He was awarded his county badge after completing his first three appearances for the Adams team but with Trevor Smith and John Holroyd was unfortunate to lose on the last end, conceding three shots to a displaced jack when leading 22-20.
Results (Northants names only):
Adams Trophy ( at Radwinter): North Essex 124 (2 pts), Northants 187 (20).
