NEWTON TEAM THIRD

ALTHOUGH winning three of their five matches, the Northants men’s Newton Trophy team had to be content with third place in the southern section of the English Bowling Federation’s county championship, their defeats coming at the hands of the top two, Lincs and Norfolk.

Northants ended their campaign with a 136-202 defeat away to Norfolk at Norwich, the rink of Les Sharp, Robert Heath and Tony Belson gaining their only success, while Stuart Agger, Tony Mace and Kevin Vinter shared the spoils.

New captain Dave Corney has been delighted with the team’s efforts and performances this season and thanks all the players for their support and commitment.

Meanwhile, the Adams Trophy team were forced to concede their match against Norfolk owing to a shortage of players.
