DUFFY & ADAMS CUP FINALS

THE final of the NBF’s Dan Duffy Cup, which is the county club championship, is being hosted by the Langtoft club on Thursday, July 17th at 6.30pm and features the holders Parkway against Blackstones.

The winners advance to next season’s Durham Centenary Trophy, which is the EBF’s national club championship. Parkway are still going strong in this season’s Durham Centenary Trophy having reached the southern section final.

In the county semi-finals, Parkway defeated Whittlesey Manor, while Blackstones won at Yaxley.

The Adams Cup final between holders Whittlesey Manor and Crowland will take place at the City of Peterborough club on Thursday, July 24th at 6.30pm.

In the semi-finals, Whittlesey Manor defeated Stamford, while Crowland beat City of Peterborough.

DOUBLE DEFEAT FOR NBF TEAMS

THE NBF Adams and Newton teams ended their English Bowling Federation county championship programmes with defeats away to Lincolnshire.

The Adams team went down 178-144 at Boston with just three points to show for their efforts courtesy of a 34-18 win for debutant Graham Patrickson, Michael Humphreys and Adam Warrington, while the rink of Neil Wright, Tom Fielding and Adam Emery drew 29-29.

Over at Spalding, the Newton team were beaten 171-153 which meant that Lincs clinched the southern section title with four wins out of four.

Northants picked up four points following wins for the rinks of Ian Chilvers, Sam Downs and Paul Buckley, who won 30-25, and Peter Smith, Andy Dyer and captain Brian Bassam, who were 37-18 winners.

THE NWBF Donald Steward team were involved in a dramatic 106-106 draw with Hunts at Buckden in their latest EWBF county championship match.

The teams shared the 18 points on offer, with the rinks of Ali McCormick and Myra Landsburgh winning for Northants while Karen Mercer’s rink drew.

The team’s final match is at home to bottom of the table North Cambs on July 16th.

The Silver Jubilee Vase team ended their three-match programme with a 137-77 defeat away to Hunts at Hemingford where all five rinks were beaten.

NBF TITLE HOPES ‘SUFFOLKATED’

ANY hopes the NBF county teams had of winning their respective southern sections in the EBF county championships perished at the hands of visiting Suffolk.

Both the Adams and Newton teams only managed one winning rink apiece as Suffolk powered home to increase their chances of qualifying for the national finals at Skegness.

The Adams team were beaten 172-151 at Parkway, their one winning rink being Neil Wright, Tom Fielding and Adam Emery, who won 35-18, while at Whittlesey Manor, the Newton team went down 177-143, with the rink of Ian Chilvers, Sam Downs and Paul Buckley winning 33-25.

Both teams round off their programmes away to Lincolnshire on Saturday (July 5).

There are two changes in the Newton team for the match at the Castle green in Spalding with Andrew Grief and Dave Roberts replacing Steven Shaw, who has moved up to the Adams team, and Melvyn Beck.

THE NBF Adams Trophy team made it three wins out of four with a maximum 22 points haul against near neighbours North Cambs at Blackstones.

Four of the rinks were settled by five shots or less in a 193-141 victory, but a 41-18 win for the rink of Wayne Morris, Michael Humphreys and Adam Warrington and a 36-21 success for Ally McNaughton, John Holroyd and Kevin Vinter eased Northants home.

Northants are in action against Suffolk at Parkway on Saturday (June 28).

THE NWBF’s Donald Steward team gained their first win of the season with a 117-85 home defeat of North Essex at Blackstones.

They won on four of the five rinks to collect 16 of the 18 points on offer, with wins for the rinks of Chris Ryan, Myra Landsburgh, Ali McCormick and Liz Hext.

Next matches for the county teams are away to Hunts on July 3.

TITLE BLOWS FOR NBF TEAMS

BOTH NBF county teams suffered their first defeats of the season on their travels to Norfolk.

Having won their opening two matches, the Adams Trophy team went down 174-149 at Great Plumstead as Norfolk made it three wins out of three to top the southern section table.

Northants picked up just three points, with the rink of Craig Campbell, Adam Emery and Peter Brown winning 34-27, while John Holroyd, Kevin Vinter and Stephen Harris shared the spoils at 25 apiece. It was close on two other rinks with Adam Warrington’s rink losing by just one and Graham Agger’s by two.

The Newton Trophy team picked up four points from their 185-155 defeat at the Carters club in Norwich, with Paul Carey, Roger Strong and Mick Greaves winning 40-17 and Peter Smith, Andy Cook and Steven Shaw taking the honours 36-21.

The Adams team are in action at home to North Cambs at Blackstones on Saturday (June 21), and then both teams entertain Suffolk the following Saturday, with the Adams fixture at Parkway and the Newton at Whittlesey Manor.

DRAMATIC WIN FOR ADAMS TEAM

THE NBF Adams Trophy team made it two wins out of two with a dramatic one shot victory away to North Essex at Radwinter.

They completed a 166-165 victory and a collection of 16 points with a single on the very last end of the match.

It set them up for a crucial fixture away to Norfolk on Saturday (June 14) with both teams having won both their opening games.

The key to Northants’ success was the 52-18 victory for the rink of Wayne Morris, Michael Humphreys and Adam Warrington. There were also wins for the rinks of Martyn Dolby (25-24) and Graham Agger (29-18), while the rink of Kevin Vinter only lost by one.
